What are porcelain veneers?

How are porcelain veneers put on?

It takes two office visits to get porcelain veneers.

Visit No. 1

Your provider first prepares your tooth, shaving very small amounts of the surface enamel off of the front side of your tooth. This makes room for the veneers. 

Then the team takes an impression of your tooth or teeth and gives you a temporary veneer to wear for protection while your permanent one is made.

Visit No. 2

Your temporary veneer is removed, and your tooth is cleaned. Your dentist then applies the permanent veneer, shapes it, and then buffs it to give you the perfect fit and luster.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Your veneers can last a decade, maybe even longer, when you treat them with the appropriate oral hygiene, which includes:

• Brushing at least twice a day with a soft-bristled brush
• Flossing at least once a day
• Staying away from hard foods like candy, popcorn, and nuts
• Keeping your routine checkups with your provider
